Square Light Guides / Light Pipes are an innovative product range from MENTOR. I like them because they not only look great but allow you to visibly differentiate your product designs from the more mundane. It is worth noting that whilst the 10-column array versions have multiple tiny light elements closely spaced together, MENTOR’s clever integrated diaphragm prevents light bleed even when different colours are used adjacent.
As ever with MENTOR light guides / light pipes, there are plenty of types and sizes available ex-stock and infinite custom variations are possible with little or no tooling costs. (Don’t forget that customisation is not restricted to dimensions. As an option you can specify most MENTOR light guides / light pipes to be made from a special diffusing material that produces a frosted effect. Self-colouring of the light guides / light pipes is another option. This allows the potential illuminated colour to be shown even when the LED is in an “off” status.)
The three standard types of square light guides / light pipes have been introduced:- front panel mounted as well as horizontal single-row and horizontal 3-row PCB-mounted.
Square front-panel light guides / light pipes
This supplement to MENTOR’s already hugely popular front panel light guide / light pipe range features a chamfered square radiating surface of 3.2 x 3.2mm. Three standard lengths are available ex-stock with other lengths offered as custom options with little or no tooling costs.
Square horizontal single-row light guide /light pipe arrays
These single-row types have miniaturised radiating surfaces of 1.4mm x 1.4mm and are available in versions of between 1 and 10 columns. Standard Length A of 8.1mm is offered ex-stock but custom lengths between 5.6mm and 15mm are available with low MOQs and little or no tooling costs.
Square horizontal three-row light guide /light pipe arrays
These three-row types have miniaturised radiating surfaces of 1.4mm x 1.4mm and are available in versions of between 1 and 10 columns (3-30 elements). Standard Length A of 2.8mm is offered ex-stock but custom lengths between 2.8mm and 45mm are available with low MOQs and little or no tooling costs.
