MENTOR’s Marketing & Communication Manager Mr Stephan Sost comments:- “MENTOR manufactures high-quality standard and custom precision opto, electronic and mechanical components; we tend to present these to Design Engineers in an efficient, engineering-focused manner. The fact is that the design and high quality finish of our components results in them really making a difference to the overall look and perceptions of our customers’ products. For Electronica 2014 we thought it would be good to commission a series of fine-art prints of our components that reflects this.
We know Duncan Grove primarily as MD of Multitron Ltd (MENTOR’s valued partner and sole agent for the UK & ROI). We observe the way in which his company is passionate about assisting Design Engineers exploit MENTOR solutions. We also know Duncan as a passionate professional-level photographer and a Fellow of The Royal Photographic Society who has just been honoured with a prestigious three-month Exhibition of his work. Who better to ask to combine these two passions to create a collection of artistic MENTOR product images? We are delighted with the results, which were featured throughout our stand at Electronica 2014 and will subsequently hang in our international offices and plants.”
My own comment is that my role at Multitron prevents me spending as much time on photography as I would like (although as an accredited Wimbledon photographer I confess that if you telephone me during The Championships, the background roar of the Centre Court crowd will not be coming from my fictional office TV, however much I try to convince you otherwise)! To be presented with MENTOR’s request was definitely a legitimate and welcome excuse to get my cameras out.
Photographically I am more known for capturing images of celebrity players thwacking tennis balls at Wimbledon as well as Oxford and Cambridge battling it out in the Universities Boat Race (these are mainly the only events I have time to shoot) so it was great to have the fresh challenge from MENTOR of capturing the essence of what I promote every day – technically advanced electronic design solutions that are elegant both in their simplicity and aesthetics and supplied by an ultra-efficient manufacturer.
I do feel though that that MENTOR conned me. It was admittedly late at night and there were possibly too many empty bier glasses but I am convinced that they promised the signage of their Electronica stand would be as below…………!
